Are we eating what we think it is?

After watching this video, I question the reliability of Food Labels. This video talks the credibility of GM food. To me, there is a undesirable relationship between Human and Nature when it comes to creating GM food, it is a war which humans use 'weapons' to fight for sustainability. In this video, they talk about the 'weapons' used, the making of GM food and the impending consequences.

As consumers, we have the rights to know what we are eating, but it is true that all food labels are revealing nothing but the truth? Probably not. With the creation of GM food on the rise, I feel that this is one major topic we can discuss with our students in the future. So, are you for or against GM food?

  1. I feel that even if I am against GM food, it is unavoidable and has been existing all the while globally.

In fact, the presence of GM food in Singapore market is rampant and consumers like us will not be able to know. This is because locally, it is not required for manufacturers to indicate if their food is GM or non-GM food in the Food Label. Thus, the reliability of food label can be questioned(as Keli mentioned).

Walk around the vegetables and fruits section in a supermarket, you'll noticed that the vegetables such as cabbage are in bright, glossy colours with no evidence of holes from insect bites! This shows that they're GM food! But are there food labels indicating? NO!

Therefore, I feel that if local consumers wants to avoid eating GM food, consume ORGANIC food!
